Germany and France have emerged as top alternatives for Indian students in 2025 amid rising costs and visa restrictions in Canada, the UK, and the U.S.
According to recent data, Indian student mobility has shifted in 2025. While Canada, the UK, and the U.S. still dominate total enrollments, their share of Indian students has declined. In contrast, Germany and France are seeing a surge due to lower tuition, minimal language barriers, and faster visa turnaround.
The decline has been attributed to factors like:
- Stringent visa rules in Canada and UK
- Higher forex burden in the U.S.
- Favorable policies and scholarships in EU countries
Germany’s zero-tuition model and France’s new English-taught Master’s programs are especially attractive.
“We’re seeing parents rethink traditional options,” said education consultant Ayesha Menon. “Affordability and long-term migration pathways are key.”
Experts predict the EU share in outbound Indian students will continue to grow in the coming academic cycles.
